Is $50 Wedding Gift Too Cheap?

The “appropriate” amount to spend on a wedding gift can depend on several factors, including your relationship with the couple, your budget, and cultural or regional norms. That said, there’s no strict rule for how much you should spend on a wedding gift.

In many cases, a gift in the $50 range can be entirely suitable, especially if it’s a thoughtful, personal gift that you believe the couple will appreciate. If you’re a closer friend or family member, you might decide to spend more, but again; this depends mainly on your budget and what feels appropriate for your relationship with the couple.

It’s also worth considering other expenses associated with the wedding. For example, if you’re spending a significant amount of money to travel to the wedding or if you’re also contributing to a bridal shower gift, a less expensive wedding gift might be more feasible.

Giving a wedding gift celebrates the couple’s marriage and shows them your love and support. Thoughtfulness and sincerity are more important than the price tag. Most couples will appreciate any gift from the heart, regardless of cost.
